Have you ever suffered from Imposter Syndrome?
You know that feeling like you just don’t belong at the table. Like, how did you even get here? And you’re sitting there thinking that pretty soon they’re going to find out that you’re unqualified and unworthy and they’re going to laugh at you and kick you out of the room.
Nearly everybody goes through these feelings at some point in their lives.
Feeling like an imposter makes you feel anxious and stressed because you’re constantly on edge and just waiting for somebody to ‘out’ you for the fraud that you really are. Which of course, makes you feel even more anxious and stressed which makes you start making mistakes which then perpetuates the myth that you’re incapable of doing your job and you’re only there through some flukey twist of fate and around we go again with the crazy spiral of anxiety and stress.
But here’s the thing, if your self-worth and self-esteem is always based on other people’s opinions of you, you will never know your own worth because there will always be a critic, and there will always be somebody who is “better”, “richer”, “faster”, “stronger”, “thinner” whatever than you, that you will be comparing yourself to.
How different would your life be if your feelings of what you deserve weren’t focused on external validation and instead focused on what is actually true about you? The confidence that that will bring, will open up a whole new world of achievement that has the bonus of coming with stress-free ease.
Until next time …
